Employer Terms & Conditions

The purpose of these policies, codes, acts and guidelines is to ensure ethical practices and relationships are upheld between Seneca Polytechnic, students and employers.

Seneca requires its employer partners to abide by the guidelines, terms and conditions listed on this page, in addition to the following codes, acts and policies:

Guidelines for Ethical Recruitment
Seneca is a member of the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) and Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL Canada). We adhere to CACEE's Ethical Recruitment Guidelines and CEWIL's Recruiting Ethics and expect our employer partners to do the same.

Job Postings and Employment Opportunities
Employers must provide appropriate and applicable information in order to post a job opportunity on our job posting website, the Seneca Works Career Portal. Failure to do so may result in the job posting not being approved.

If you are looking to post a job on the Career Posting Job Board, which includes part-time, full-time, summer placement and casual positions, please provide the following information:

  • name of organization, including full mailing address and phone number
  • contact information of the employer representative, including full name, phone number and email address
  • the type of job (e.g. full-time permanent, contract, volunteer, etc.), followed by a detailed description of the nature of the position being offered and an approximate or fixed hourly wage/salary (in $CAD)

Recruitment agencies and third-party recruiters will be required to provide the name of the organization for which they are recruiting. This information will be kept confidential and will not be disclosed in the job posting.

If you are looking to post a co-op/work term job on the Work-Integrated Learning Job Board, please provide the following information:

  • name of organization, including full mailing address and phone number
  • contact information of the employer representative, including full name, phone number and email address
  • start and end dates for the position, along with the application deadline
  • a detailed description of the nature of the position being offered and, if the position is paid, an approximate or fixed hourly wage/salary (in $CAD)
  • confirmation of Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance, which is a requirement for all co-op/work term placements
  • the type of work-related accident insurance coverage (WSIB, private or none/exempt) provided by your organization

Seneca will not accept the following types of employment:

  • work that is pyramid-type or multi-level marketing (MLM) in nature or structure
  • work which requires the purchase of a service/product, requires a monetary deposit or similar as a condition of employment
  • work that is 100% commission-based
  • work involving unpaid or reduced pay for training (exceptions to this can include registered non-profit organizations, charitable organizations and specific WIL programs)
  • work involving credit in lieu of pay
  • employment contracts or franchise contracts which charge a fee (e.g. certification fee, licencing fee, equipment purchase, initial investment in a company)

WIL students are required to accept the first offer of employment received through the WIL office. To have the best chance of securing your selected student, we strongly encourage you to connect with your WIL Coordinator when you are ready to extend an offer.

Privacy, Confidentiality, Information
Seneca expects its employer partners to protect confidential information (such as student personal information) using appropriate safeguards and that this confidential information shall only be used for legitimate purposes related to recruitment and the work-integrated learning (WIL) program.

Seneca would like to remind all employers posting with us to log in to their accounts, review their account/contact, job posting, division and organization information in the Seneca Works Career Portal and to update the information and/or alert Seneca should any changes occur.  

On-Campus Recruitment
Seneca hosts numerous Career Fairs, Information Sessions and Recruitment Events on campus to assist employers with building a talent pipeline and recruiting students, graduates and alumni. While we welcome and encourage employers with interest in recruiting on campus, we expect our employer partners to abstain from the following recruitment strategies on campus:

  • entering classrooms during a scheduled class, tutorial or lab to promote employment opportunities and/or distribute employment materials
  • using common internal and external areas on campus such as waiting areas, lobbies, alcoves, break rooms, entrances, libraries or eating areas to conduct impromptu recruiting activities
  • displaying employment advertisements without approval from the Seneca Works Department

Refusal of Service
Seneca reserves the right to refuse access to post jobs on the Seneca Works Career Portal and/or remove an employer conducting on-campus recruitment activities, where some or all of the following apply:

  • non-compliance with these terms and conditions has occurred
  • incorrect or misleading information has been provided
  • complaints from students, graduates, alumni or Seneca staff regarding unethical recruitment practices are received and substantiated
  • we consider the employment opportunity to be a misrepresentation and is not approved for students, graduates or alumni
  • the behaviour or conduct of an employer is deemed unethical and/or contrary to Seneca's policies and practices

Seneca will not be liable to employers with respect to any loss or damage that may have resulted directly or indirectly with regards to our services.
